This edition of al-Muqaddimah al-Jazariyyah, the third part of Saleem Gaibie's Murshid al-Qāriʾ series, presents Imam Ibn al-Jazarī's poem on tajwīd with an English translation and explanation. Ibn al-Jazarī, who died in Shiraz in 833 AH, was the leading authority on the readings of the Quran in his age, and his Muqaddimah remains the core text of the science.
In just over a hundred lines the poem covers the points of articulation of the letters, their qualities, heaviness and lightness, the rules of nūn and mīm, madd, and stopping and starting. Reading the explanation alongside the Arabic helps the student understand each rule before committing the line to memory, and it follows naturally from the same author's edition of Tuḥfat al-Aṭfāl.
El Badr teaches the complete Jazariyyah line by line in a live online group with Shaykh Ilyaas Badr. See the al-Jazariyyah course, or download the Arabic text.
